Description

This building is a barn and byre located to the east of Ashes Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with stone dressings and features a roof covered with 20th-century tiles. The structure is L-shaped and consists of two storeys. The left side includes a barn and loft with a boarded door and a boarded pitching door above it. The right side has a two-bay projecting byre, which also features similar doors, all with stone lintels. The front gable end of the byre has a horizontal opening with a stone-filled recess on the right side designed to accommodate a sliding shutter, and there are two stone shelves in the gable peak. Additionally, there are slit vents present.
