Description
No. 1 High Street is a house and shop dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed from coursed squared rubble sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a stone-flagged roof topped with a yellow brick chimney. The building has two storeys and two windows. The door and overlight on the right side have been renewed and are set under a flat stone lintel. The first-floor windows are late 19th century sashes, each with similar flat stone lintels and stone sills. The ground-floor shop windows include, on the left, two rows of three panes with a projecting stone sill and a wider flat stone lintel, and on the right, a bowed window with five rows of six panes, set on a bowed stone projection and sill, topped with a bowed stone cornice. There is a chimney at the right end of the building. This property is included for its group value with Old Bank House on Front Street. The building was empty at the time of the survey.
