Description
Whitfield House is a house dating to circa 1750. It is rendered with a stone plinth, painted ashlar dressings, and quoins. The roof is slate, with stone gable copings and brick and stone chimneys. The house has three storeys and six windows. The front door is an 8-panel double door with a patterned overlight, set within a deep panelled reveal and architrave with a hood supported by large brackets. Sash windows with late 18th-century glazing bars are set in plain stone surrounds. A moulded coping sits above a stone parapet on a moulded string, with corner pilasters.
Inside, there are some panelled rooms on the ground and first floors; three rooms contain corner chimneys. The open-well staircase has a ramped moulded handrail with slender turned balusters, alternating between fluted and plain designs, on an open string with block tread ends. Square panelled newels are also present.
