Description
The Black Bull Public House is an inn that dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone some alterations. It features painted incised stucco with a plinth, while the left return gable of the taller section is made of coursed squared sandstone. The rear wing is constructed from sandstone rubble with some rendering and has ashlar dressings. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and includes stone gable coping, as well as chimneys made of ashlar and yellow brick or rendered materials.
The building has a Z-plan layout and consists of a two-storey, two-bay left section, and a higher, projecting right section that has three storeys and two bays, with the second bay projecting. There is also a lower rear left wing. An extruded entrance porch, which is one storey and one bay, features a late 19th-century sash window at the front and a renewed door on the left return. The first bay of the left section has tripartite sashes, a late 19th-century sash above the porch, and another late 19th-century sash in the three-storey section, all with raised stone surrounds. The first bay of the three-storey part has paired ground-floor sashes with flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. The roof of the two-storey section has slightly swept eaves, with a left end chimney made of brick on an ashlar plinth. The roof of the three-storey section features left gable coping with a curved kneeler and a hipped roof over the projecting right bay, along with two end chimneys that are rendered.
