Description
No. 8 Meadhope Street is a house that dates back to 1740, although it may be older. It was originally numbered as No. 7. The building is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and has a Welsh slate roof featuring renewed stone coping on the left gable, along with stone and brick chimneys. The house has two storeys and two windows. The central entrance is a ledged two-panel door set in a raised stone surround with a moulded chamfer, and above it is an incised stone lozenge displaying the date and initials "R and F C." The windows are renewed cross windows, with the lower parts having sliding sashes, and they feature flat stone lintels and sills. There are chimneys at both ends of the building. Inside, there is an L-plan stair at the rear with splat balusters designed to imitate a barley-sugar twist. The interior also includes two-panel doors, some of which have a central bead, and first-floor beams.
