Description
The former Primitive Methodist Chapel, built in 1885 by George Race, is located in Wolsingham Market Place. This building is constructed of sandstone ashlar with quoins and features a Welsh slate roof adorned with stone gable copings and decorative red ridge tiles. It stands three storeys high and has three bays, with the central bay projecting under a gable.
The entrance is a boarded door on the right, topped with an overlight set in a low elliptical arch that has a dripmould decorated with ball flowers. The ground-floor windows are positioned under keyed segmental arches, while the first-floor windows are set beneath shallow two-centred arches. The second-floor windows have shouldered lintels in the outer bays and keyed round arches in the center, with all central windows being tripartite. A slit is present at the peak of the central gable. Stone brackets support the eaves, and the end copings rest on curved kneelers, topped with a carved finial on the front central gable.
The chapel has been out of use since 1983 and is currently empty, with its interior fittings removed to the United States. It is included in the register for its group value.
