Description

Hugh Vaughan & Co Ltd is a single-storey building dating from the 20th century, designed with five bays that are splayed to fit a corner site. The structure is made of concrete and features a flat roof. The outer bays are advanced and have stepped panelled parapets. Each bay contains a three-light window with reeded architrave, half round mullions, and small-paned windows. There is a four-channel band running along the building.

The bay at the right end of the elevation is narrower and has a boarded-up window. Above the central doorway, there is a tall stepped panel with channels at the top. The central panel within the architrave features a relief of a wheatsheaf with the motto "LABOUR AND WAIT" on a scroll, along with the lettering "CIMLA BRANCH" and a defaced logo that is illegible. Flanking the central doorway are stepped parapets with a fluted band that bears disc ornaments. A continuous deep hood with a sunk panelled soffit extends over the doorway, and stepped mouldings descend to form the architrave for the central entrance.

The recessed porch has etched glass on the side walls, a sunk panel frieze, and a soffit. An Art Deco grill covers the original glazed door. The bays flanking the entrance feature large picture windows with convex reveals, marble stall risers, and bronzed glazing bars transomed with sidelights.

The building is currently used as a discount warehouse.
