Description
The Market Hall is a 19th-century building featuring a seven-bay front made of English bond stock brick, accented with stone bands at the window level and a stepped plinth. It has a transverse double pile roof that is concealed behind a red brick parapet. The eaves cornice is moulded brick with a machiolated effect. The hipped slate roof includes a Victorian sash window located in a later bay on the extreme left.
The main facade is symmetrical, with two doorways, each flanked by two windows. The doorways are taller and feature sliding double doors, while the windows have round arches and are linked by pointed hoodmoulds. The glazing in the windows has been updated, and the large upper panels have rectangular iron cames, with smaller panels below. There are fanlights above the doorways, including one with a blind fanlight in the bay on the extreme left.
Inside, there is a canted arcade supported by iron columns with decorative spandrels. A partition was inserted during the 1940s.
