Description
Beck Hall consists of three large pairs of semi-detached villas, connected by side porches, currently serving as residences for Swansea University, with linking upper floor bridges. Each pair has three storeys above a basement. The front facades are made of Bathstone, featuring pilaster strips on the projecting end bays and a central pilaster strip that indicates the joint of the houses. There are band courses at the window sill levels. The basement level is constructed of grey rubble, while the side elevations are rendered. The roofs are slate with bracketed eaves, although the left pair has lost some of these features. The windows are primarily horned sash windows with large single panes, though some modern glazing has been added, particularly to the inner ground floor windows and the basement of the eastern pair.
The projecting end bays have paired windows with segmental heads on the second floor, and paired windows with segmental heads, keystones, and bracketed shelves at sill level on the first floor. The ground floor and basement feature splayed bays with cornices. The inner bays have a window with a segmental head on the second floor, a window with a segmental head on the first floor, and a ground floor window with a bracketed cornice, while the basement has a mullioned window with two lights. Each house has single-storey porches on the sides that link the adjacent houses, with steps leading up to the porch supported by Doric pillars and a stone balustrade. The entrance door is set back under a semi-circular overlight. At the time of inspection, the western pair of houses was undergoing repairs.
