Description

23-25 Grange Road is a pair of symmetrical flatted villas built around 1863. The buildings are two stories high and consist of ten bays, constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with polished ashlar dressings. They feature base and eaves courses, raised window surrounds, long and short quoins, and round-arched pedimented dormers.

On the south elevation, the entrances are highlighted by advanced doorpieces located in the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th bays, which are painted in the 1st, 4th, and 7th bays. Each entrance is topped with cornices and stylized pediments, leading to panelled doors and 2-light fanlights. Above each entrance, there are single windows on the first floor. The 2nd, 3rd, 8th, and 9th bays are also advanced and gabled, featuring single windows in each bay and a round-arched pedimented window in the gableheads. The central bays have single windows, while round-arched pedimented dormers are placed between the 4th and 5th, and the 6th and 7th bays. There are single-storey flat-roofed garages attached to the outer left and right sides.

The east and west elevations include a leaded stair window and two narrow windows. The windows throughout the building are a mix of plate glass, 4-pane, and 8-pane sash and case styles, with surrounds painted at the ground level in the 6th, 8th, and 9th bays. The roof is finished with grey slate and has a piended design, with two later pedimented dormers added to No 19. The gables are coped, and there are coped wallheads and mutual stacks, along with bracketted skewputts.

The interiors were not seen in 1990. The property is bordered by a low coped rubble wall along the street and has high coped rubble mutual walls.
