Description

5 St Catherine's Place is a double villa built around 1863. It is a two-storey, four-bay structure with a symmetrical rectangular plan. The building is constructed from squared and coursed sandstone rubble, with the principal elevation featuring squared and coursed grey granite and contrasting polished cream sandstone ashlar dressings. Notable architectural details include a base course, cornice, long and short quoins, and window surrounds.

On the west elevation, there are single windows at the ground floor of the second and third bays, with round-arched windows above. The outer left and right bays feature bipartite windows with pilastered and carved capitalled column-mullions and modillioned lintels. Above these, there are consoled cornices that serve as a bracketed base for the orielled pedimented ashlar bipartite first-floor windows, which include aprons, column-mullions, and carved capitals, with a broken pediment at No 3.

The north and south elevations, which serve as the entrance, are largely blank except for an off-centre door. These elevations have roll-moulded door surrounds, panelled doors, plate glass fanlights, and single windows above.

The building features plate glass sash and case windows at No 5, while No 3 has uPVC replacement windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, lead flashing, moulded eaves guttering, and two shouldered and corniced stacks, along with a corniced mutual stack and octagonal cans.

The interior was not seen in 1990. There is a low saddleback wall to the street and a coped wall to the north, with garages located at the rear.
