Description
8 Grange Road is a villa built around 1863, featuring a mix of single and two-storey irregular gabled designs. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone, accented with polished ashlar dressings. It has overhanging timber eaves, timber collars and finials, moulded window surrounds, and moulded stone mullions and transoms, with droved margins.
The entrance elevation is single storey, showcasing a central doorway with a moulded surround and hoodmould above a square blank tablet. It has a two-leaf panelled door and a gable above. To the outer right, there is a bipartite window, and to the outer left, a tall shouldered stack breaks the eaves, topped with a moulded octagonal can.
The north elevation facing Grange Road features three main gabled bays connected by a linking block, with a fourth gabled bay to the outer right that was made two-storey in the later 19th century. The first bay has a small single window and a dormer in the mansard roof above. The second bay contains a small single window and a bipartite window with etched glass. The third bay has two bipartite windows. The linking block includes a window and a secondary entrance at ground level, along with a bipartite window on the first floor. To the outer right, there is a timber mullioned bipartite window and a corbelled and canted oriel window on the first floor above.
The south elevation, facing the garden, has a single-storey extension to the outer left, along with a recessed gabled bay and linking block. There are two advanced gabled bays to the outer right. The extension features a capped timber window, while the recessed gabled bay has two narrow windows and a secondary entrance at ground level, with a bipartite window above. The linking block includes a large single window at ground level and a bipartite window on the first floor. The advanced and canted conservatory with a lead roof is located at ground level on the first advanced bay, with a tripartite window above. A single window is situated at ground level between the bays, with a dormer featuring a dentilled cornice set in the mansard roof above. The outer right has a bipartite window in a single-storey gabled bay.
The villa features 3-pane sash and case windows and a purple slate gabled roof with a corniced ridge and gablehead stacks, along with some original rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen in 1990. The property is enclosed by high coped rubble mutual and boundary walls.
