Description
10 Palmerston Road is a villa built around 1866, featuring three storeys and a T-shaped plan with a single-storey service wing at the rear. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone rubble, with a base course, a dividing band course above the ground floor, and stop-chamfered reveals.
On the west elevation, the entrance has a central recessed doorway with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight above. There are single windows on the first floor and breaking eaves on the second floor. The outer left side has advanced tripartite windows on the ground and first floors, while a bipartite window breaks the eaves on the second floor. The outer right features an advanced gabled wing with a canted window on the ground and first floors, a bipartite window on the second floor, and a blank rectangular tablet set in the gablehead.
The north elevation is blank. The south elevation, facing the garden, is symmetrical with three bays. It has a single window in the central bay on the first floor and another above breaking eaves in the gablehead, which includes a stack and an inset tablet. There are single windows on the ground and second floors at the outer left and right, and bipartite windows on the first floor.
The east elevation includes a single-storey pitched-roof service wing at ground level and an advanced gabled bay on the outer left with a single window on the second floor. The centre features tripartite windows on the first and second floors, with single windows in the remaining bays.
The villa has three-pane plate glass sash and case windows, although the first-floor windows have been replaced with uPVC. The roof is gabled and covered with grey slate, featuring corniced gablehead stacks on the north and south sides, moulded cans, and block skewputts.
The interior was not seen in 1990. The property is enclosed by high boundary walls along Palmerston Road and Grange Road, with coped rubble gatepiers at the entrance on Palmerston Road. There are flat-roofed rendered garages to the north and south.
