Description

28 Mansionhouse Road is a villa built around 1860, featuring a symmetrical three-bay rectangular plan with a service wing. The exterior is constructed of sandstone rubble, with coursed lightly stuccoed ashlar and polished dressings on the west (entrance) elevation. This elevation includes a base, a dividing band, and eaves courses, along with rusticated quoins, architraved windows, and a cornice.

The west entrance elevation showcases a central pilastered corniced doorpiece topped with a blocking course, a panelled door, and a plate glass fanlight. Above the door, there is a single window, and the remaining bays exhibit regular fenestration.

On the north elevation, there is an 8-pane sash and case window at the first floor. The south elevation features one window at the ground floor and another at the first floor. The east elevation includes a piend-roofed service wing at the ground floor, a central round-arched stair window at the first floor, and single windows flanking to the outer right.

The west elevation has plate glass sash and case windows, while the south and east elevations have 12-pane windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with lead flashing, moulded eaves guttering, and shouldered rendered wallhead stacks on the south and north sides. There are two moulded octagonal chimney cans and a small wallhead stack with a heavily moulded and corniced square can.

Inside, there is a glazed tripartite vestibule door, a painted stair window with coloured foliate margin panes, and decorative plaster mouldings in the principal rooms. The property is bordered by a low ashlar coped wall to the street and high coped mutual boundary walls. Additionally, there is a garage built in 1927 and a carport added in 1981 to the south.
