Description

St Denis and Cranley School is a villa built around 1874, featuring two stories and a three-bay rectangular plan, with a lower two-storey service wing at the rear. The building is constructed from cream sandstone with an ashlar front, while the rear and sides are made of squared and snecked stugged rubble. It has a base course, architraved windows, and canted window mullions with cut-away arrises and decoratively carved stops. The windows in the right bay have bracketed cills, and there are eaves cornices and channelled quoins.

The southwest (front) elevation showcases a central round-arched doorway with pilasters, a panelled door, a semi-circular plate glass fanlight, and a tiled vestibule. Above the doorway is a consoled cornice with a balustraded parapet that serves as an apron to a first-floor bipartite window. The left bay features a full-height canted window topped with a half-piend roof, while the right bay has a bipartite window at both the ground and first floor, with a cornice above.

On the northeast (rear) elevation, the lower two-storey service wing is visible, with a central wallhead of the main block raised between wallhead stacks and a tall round-arched stair window adorned with stained glass.

The southeast elevation consists of three bays, with single windows in the main block. It has a shouldered wallhead stack on the left and a rectangular dormer on the right, along with a pedimented dormer on the return of the rear wing. The northwest elevation mirrors the southeast elevation.

Inside, there is a timber staircase and ornate cornices in the principal rooms. The property is enclosed by a tall wall with semi-circular coping on the sides and a low wall at the front with saddleback coping, along with later gates and railings.
