Description

16 and 16A Napier Road is a villa built around 1874. It is a two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan structure with a single-storey rear projection. The front is made of cream sandstone in ashlar, while the rear and sides are constructed from squared and snecked rubble. The villa features an eaves cornice, and the canted window has mullions with under-cut arrises and decoratively carved stops. The chimney stacks are shouldered and corniced.

On the front elevation, there is a central tripartite doorpiece with a cornice and a balcony that has a panelled and balustraded parapet supported by carved consoles. The side lights have etched glass, and the entrance includes a panelled door, a rectangular plate glass fanlight, and a tiled vestibule. Above the entrance, there is a scroll-flanked round-arched window with a keystone, flanked by shallow pilasters. To the left, a full-height canted window is present, with a decorative string course above the ground floor and a half-piend roof. The right bay has a shallow projection with tripartite windows on both the ground and first floors; the ground floor window features a decorative band course above a carved rosette, while the first-floor window has chip-carving on the lintel.

The rear elevation includes a single-storey service projection with a central wallhead that has cast-iron brattishing raised between wallhead stacks. The southeast elevation has three bays with single windows and a wallhead stack in the left bay. The northwest elevation mirrors the southeast elevation and includes a secondary entrance door. The windows throughout are timber sash and case, with plate glass glazing on the front and four-pane windows on the rear and sides. The roof is slate with a piend and platform design, featuring lead flashings and four wallhead stacks.

The interior was not seen in 1992. The property is bordered by low rubble walls at the front with saddleback coping and original turned cast-iron railings, along with later gates.
