Description
30 Lauder Road is a villa built around 1865, featuring two stories and three bays, with an advanced bay on the right. The building is constructed from squared and snecked rubble, with finely stugged and coursed ashlar and polished dressings on the entrance elevation. It has a base course, a cornice, and chamfered reveals with fillet detail.
On the entrance elevation, there is a central round-arched porch with a cornice at the re-entrant angle, supported by four columns with carved capitals. Above the porch is brattishing, and the door is framed with an architrave, featuring a panelled design with glazed upper panels and a round-arched plate glass fanlight. There is a single window above the porch and another on the first floor, while the advanced bay has a full-height canted window and an additional window in the re-entrant wall to the right on the first floor.
The northeast elevation includes a window on the first floor and a single-storey slate-roofed extension added in 1886, which has a bipartite window facing the street. The southeast elevation has a window on the first floor, and the southwest elevation features a single-storey service wing with a central stair window and regular fenestration on both the ground and first floors.
The villa has plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate piended roof with one dormer on the east and two on the west, lead flashing, and moulded eaves guttering. There are four shouldered and corniced wallhead stacks, two of which are rendered, and they mainly have octagonal cans.
Inside, at number 28, there are ornate plaster mouldings in the vestibule and an etched glass vestibule door featuring an armorial bearing with the motto "caelum non solum."
The boundary walls consist of a low ashlar-coped wall along the street, rising to approximately 2.5 meters to the north, with other retaining walls of the same height. The main pedestrian entrance is marked by original cast-iron gatepiers.
