Description
Circa 1865. 2-storey, 3-bay (advanced bay to right) rectangular-plan villa, subdivided (1952). Squared and snecked rubble; finely stugged and coursed ahslar with polished dressings at E (entrance) elevation. Base course; cornice; chamfered reveals with fillet detail.
E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central round-arched and corniced porch at re-entrant angle, supported by 4 columns with carved capitals; brattishing above; architraved door surround; panelled door (upper panels glazed); round-arched plate glass fanlight. Single window above and 1st floor; advanced bay with full-height canted window and single window in re-entrant wall at 1st floor flanking to right.
N ELEVATION: window at 1st floor; single storey slate-roofed extension (1886) with bipartite window to street.
S ELEVATION: window at 1st floor.
W ELEVATION: single storey service wing. central stair window; regular fenestration at ground and 1st floors.
Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate piended roof; single dormer to E, 2 dormers to W; lead flashing moulded eaves guttering; 4 shouldered and corniced wallhead stacks (2 rendered); mainly octagonal cans.
Interior (28): ornate plaster mouldings in vestibule; etched glass vestibule door (armorial bearing with motto "caelum non solum").
BOUNDARY WALLS: low ashlar-coped wall to street, rising to approximately 2.5m to N; other retaining walls at same height; original cast-iron gatepiers at main pedestrian entrance.
