Description
44 Lauder Road is a villa built around 1869, featuring two stories and a three-bay rectangular plan. The exterior is made of squared and snecked rubble, with finely stugged and coursed ashlar and polished dressings on the entrance elevation. It has base and eaves courses, quoin strips, a bracketed cornice, and architraved windows, with segmental arches on the first floor.
On the entrance elevation, there is a central deep-set panelled door topped by a round-arched plate glass fanlight and an architraved surround. This is complemented by a detached column Venetian doorpiece that has carved capitals, a semi-circular arch with roll-moulding, and a broken pedimented canopied hood. To the left at ground floor, there is a corniced tripartite window, with single windows at the centre and flanking the first floor. The outer bay to the right features a full-height canted window with a dividing cornice.
The north elevation is blank with an attached garage, while the south elevation has a window on the first floor. The west elevation includes a contemporary single-storey addition that was formerly domestic offices, featuring a central stair window and regular fenestration on the first floor.
The villa has plate glass sash and case windows on the east side and 4-pane sash and case windows on the west. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with a skylight on the west side, lead flashing, and moulded eaves guttering. There are five wallhead stacks, four of which are shouldered and corniced, topped with octagonal cans.
Inside, the porch features an encaustic-tiled floor, an ornate plaster cornice, and a tripartite etched glass inner doorway.
