Description
50 Lauder Road is a villa built around 1875, featuring two stories and a three-bay rectangular plan. The exterior is made of squared and snecked rubble, with finely stugged and coursed ashlar and polished dressings on the entrance elevation. It has base and eaves courses, quoin strips, a bracketed cornice, and windows with raised surrounds and chamfered arrises, with segmental arches on the first floor.
On the entrance elevation, there is a central deep-set panelled door with a segmental plate glass fanlight above, surrounded by an architraved frame and a pilastered doorpiece that has carved capitals and consoles supporting a dentilled segmental broken pediment. To the left on the ground floor, there is a corniced tripartite window, while the first floor has single windows in the centre and to the left, and a full-height canted bay with a dividing cornice to the right.
The north and south elevations each have two windows on the ground floor and one window on the first floor, with a garage built in 1923 attached to the south side. The west elevation features a former stair window at the centre and has regular fenestration, with a later main entrance.
The villa has plate glass sash and case windows and a grey slate piended roof, with 19th century dormers on the west and south sides. The roof has lead flashing and moulded eaves guttering, supported by wrought-iron brackets on the north, south, and west sides. There are five wallhead stacks, four of which are shouldered and three are rendered, with mainly octagonal cans.
The interior was not seen in 1990. Additionally, there is a high boundary wall made of squared and coursed rubble along Hatton Place.
