Description

This building at 46 Lauder Road in Edinburgh is a villa constructed around 1869. It is two stories high and has a three-bay rectangular plan. The exterior features squared and snecked rubble, with finely stugged and coursed ashlar and polished dressings on the entrance elevation. Notable architectural details include base and eaves courses, quoin strips, a bracketed cornice, and architraved windows that are segmental-arched on the first floor.

On the entrance elevation, there is a central deep-set panelled door topped with a round-arched plate glass fanlight. The doorpiece is enhanced by nook shafts and carved capitals, featuring a bracketed waved segmental cornice and a roll-moulded surround. To the left at ground floor, there is a corniced tripartite window, while the first floor has single windows at the center and to the left, along with a full-height canted bay with a dividing cornice on the right.

The north elevation is blank and has an attached garage from 1825. The south elevation includes a window on the first floor. The west elevation features a single-storey L-plan service wing, with a central stair window and regular fenestration on the first floor.

The villa has plate glass sash and case windows on the east side, four-pane windows on the west, and plate glass dormers. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with 19th-century single and canted dormers on the west side, lead flashing, and moulded eaves guttering. There are four shouldered and corniced wallhead stacks, two of which are rendered on the south side, and the north side has octagonal caps.

The interior was not seen in 1990.
