Description
The byre at Henbant Fawr is a Grade II listed building situated on a steeply-sloping site. It consists of two stepped units, with the uphill end extended in blockwork and an added lean-to at the downhill end. The structure is built of random rubble, featuring a corrugated steel roof on the uphill end and asbestos-cement sheets on the downhill end.
The uphill end faces the yard and includes a boarded door on the left and two windows in the center and on the right, which have been converted from former doorways. All these openings are set under wooden lintels with drip stones. In the loft area, there is a central boarded opening beneath a drip stone, flanked by infilled ventilation slits. The downhill end features a stable door on the left under a wooden lintel and a loft opening beneath the wall plate.
The lean-to at the downhill end is constructed of random rubble with brick used for the gable. At the rear of the uphill end, there is a central blocked doorway flanked by vent strips and a shallow buttress on the right. The downhill end has a window that pivots in the center on the right and boarded shutters covering the loft opening on the left. The lean-to includes a doorway on the left.
The building was not inspected at the time of the survey in January 1998.
