Description
Penyrheol is a two-storey house built of rubble stone and painted white. The original part of the house features two windows, a stone tile roof, and a stone stack on the right side. Attached to the right is an 18th-century kitchen, separated by a butt joint, which has a slate roof, a stone stack to the right, and two windows. On the left side is a former byre with a corrugated iron roof. The main house has had its front windows enlarged in the 1960s, and sawn-off beams indicate a former pentice. The kitchen wing also has similar inserted windows and a porch added in the 1960s. The right gable end contains two enlarged windows. At the rear of the main house, there is a small stair light on the left and a 19th-century casement window on the right under a timber lintel. The kitchen includes a small pantry opening and a two-light casement window on the left.
The byre has two doorways at the front, both under timber lintels, and two blocked ventilation slits leading to the loft. The rear features a former doorway under a timber lintel that has been blocked to create a window, and there are tall narrow breathers for the loft.
Inside, the doorway from the original cross passage to the hall has a wooden stop-chamfer surround and a boarded door with strap hinges. The hall contains cross beams with run-out stops, a fireplace with a large timber lintel, and a stone stair on the left. A post-and-panel partition is partially repaired and has two doorways, one with a triangular head on the right, both with boarded doors and strap hinges. In the upper storey, there are two pairs of upper crucks with lapped collars, above which principals are added on posts. The kitchen features a projecting fireplace with a timber lintel and cross beams with stepped stops.
