Description
The barn at Cathedine Fawr is a large 8-bay structure built from stone rubble, featuring a roof made of Welsh slate and stone tiles, oriented east to west. It has pairs of opposing doorways on the east and west sides, with the southwest doorway altered. The barn includes a main tier of ventilation slits with stone lintels on the front and timber on the rear, as well as two slits in the gable end. Due to the sloping ground, the west end has a deep plinth, and the ground level is significantly higher behind the barn. Attached to the southwest corner is a rubble wall that forms the main boundary of the farmyard and borders the yard in front of the byre.
Inside, the barn features pegged trusses with tie beams and struts, along with three rows of trenched purlins. The ventilation slits have sharp arises and deep splays, and there is a stone flag threshing floor.
