Description
The barn at Gwrlodde, likely dating from the 17th century, is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a corrugated iron roof. It consists of five bays, with a cartway in the central bay that has full height doors leading to the farmyard. There are original boarded doors of lower height on the west side, and a small door with a cambered head to the farmyard that is now blocked. Each bay has ventilation slits in the side walls, and the gable end has two tiers of slit vents. The barn is wider than the adjoining farmhouse wing, with the southwest corner eased in and the gable openings blocked.
Inside, there is a central threshing floor. The structure includes chamfered tie beams, two pairs of crucks that have been re-used as principal rafters, and lapping collars. The joints are pegged, and there are three tiers of purlins.
