Description
Middle Genffordd is a farmhouse with attached farm buildings that originally dates from the 16th or 17th century and was altered and extended in the 19th century. The structure is built of rubble sandstone and features slate roofs. It has one storey and an attic, with the house comprising two window bays. At the lower end, there is a single-storey building that now serves as the kitchen, while at the upper end, there is a building that has been converted into a garage. An early to mid-19th century two-storey building, which contains a sitting room, has been added at right angles to the rear. The entrance is located behind a gable stack and features a boarded door with one light, set in a chamfered stone doorcase. Inside, there is a central cross beam and a door at the side of the main stack that leads to the living hall. This hall has ogee moulded cross beams and a stone winding stair located on the southeast side of the stack, although the stack has not been opened up. There is a post and panel partition with doors at both ends, which have segmental shaped heads and a small half-round pendant in the center. The inner room consists of two or more bays and has a gable stack, which is now used as a store. The stair is supported by a squint beam in the corner of the kitchen, indicating that the kitchen was always part of the house. On the upper floor, there are two cruck couples, likely upper crucks, set approximately 2.4 meters apart, with the apex not visible above the ceiling level. The roof structure includes two tiers of purlins.
