Description

Pen-Twyn, which includes an attached barn, is a Grade II listed building. It features colourwashed rubble stonework with a stone slate roof on the barn and a slate roof on the farmhouse. The farmhouse has a central part-glazed door beneath a gabled canopy, flanked by two light 19th-century windows. There is a door leading to a passage and large cart doors for the farm building, which has been extended in rubble to create a lean-to with one door at the front and one at the end.

The barn consists of three bays and has cart doors at both the front and back in the bay closest to the house. It also features triangular vents in the gable end and at the rear.

Originally, entry to the farmhouse was at the side of the stack from the cross passage. The hall contains chamfered beams on the cross beam, likely indicating the original position of a post and panel partition that has been moved back, possibly during the rebuilding of the stack. The inner room is raised by one step. An added rear kitchen includes a gable stack with a side bread oven, and there is a blocked window on the northeast side with seats in the splayed reveals.
