Description

This barn, likely dating from the 17th century, is attached to the west end of a house. It is constructed of coursed rubble sandstone, largely dry-walled, with a stone slate roof. The barn has three bays, including a partial aisle. A central cart entrance is accessed through harr-hung boarded doors, with a quoined reveal on the right side. The left bay features an aisled outshut with a small boarded door. The rear elevation includes slit vents and a central cart entrance with boarded doors, with a stone and brick buttress to the left end. On the right return, a cruck blade and tie beam are exposed in the wall.

Inside, the barn has a stone-paved threshing floor and four cruck pairs, with the outer pairs embedded in the end walls and raised on stylobates. Wallposts are set on the back of the cruck blades near the aisle, with a soffit-morticed wall-plate exposed. Wall ties are present, along with single purlins and most surviving wind braces. The apex treatment is varied, featuring a diagonally-set ridge. The interior also reveals stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
