Description
Nantyfelin is a detached house set back behind a lawned forecourt, enclosed by walls and railings. The exterior is finished in painted roughcast and features a hipped slate roof with small stacks on either side. The front elevation is two stories high and consists of a three-window range with a low plinth. The central entrance has an arched door framed by a raised stucco plain arched surround, supported by scrolled brackets at the imposts. The door is a six-panel design with a fanlight above, featuring radial bars, and is accessed by a slate step. The windows are twelve-pane horned timber sashes with painted stone sills. The eaves are decorated with a modillion cornice, and there is a gabled dormer between the left and center bays that includes a four-pane casement, a glazed gable, and a fretted bargeboard. The left end wall has a modillion eaves cornice and no windows.
Inside, there is a panelled timber arch in the hall, and the doors are fielded six-panel designs set in reeded frames. The staircase, dating from the early 19th century, runs continuously to the attic and features stick balusters and a closed string. The principal rooms have reeded stucco cornices, while the dining room includes plain stucco alcoves with segmental arched heads. Some original timber fireplaces remain, accompanied by 19th-century grates.
