Description

Pontgarreg Cottage is a farmhouse that is attached at the west end to an altered outbuilding, which is now separate and not included in the listing. The structure is built of rubble stone, which was formerly rendered, and features a gabled slate roof with renewed red brick stacks. It is two stories high and has a three-window range that is offset to the left, with a central door located in a 20th-century open-sided timber porch. The door is a six-panel design with glazed upper panels.

On the ground floor, there are later 19th-century plate-glass horned tripartite sashes with timber lintels, each set further out than the windows above. The upper floor has a small plate-glass horned sash in the center with a timber lintel, flanked by similar sashes that have heads to the eaves. The stone sills are painted throughout. The late 20th-century eaves board and cast iron rainwater goods are also present. The right gable end features a 20th-century window on the first floor with brick sides. There is an altered two-story rendered rear wing on the northeast side.

Inside, there are panelled timber doors, with some being six-panel and the remainder four-panel. The heavy beams on the ground floor are now covered. A room to the right includes arched alcoves and a reeded stucco cornice. The dog-leg stair has renewed balusters. The bedroom to the right features a deep coved stucco ceiling with a reeded cornice. The rear extension contains a 19th-century service stair, and there is a plain stucco arch on the first floor.
