Description
Swn-y-Gwynt is a detached house that features painted roughcast and a slate close-eaved roof with rebuilt brick end stacks. The building is three storeys high and has a three-window range, with two roof lights near the ridge and upper floors fitted with plate glass sashes. On the ground floor, there are semi-circular headed plate glass sashes on either side of a central doorway, which has been renewed and slightly simplified in the late 20th century. The former open pediment on brackets is missing its returns, and the reeded half-columns lack capitals. There are five steps leading up to a six-panel door that has four fielded panels, panelled reveals, and a fanlight with radiating tracery. A stucco sill course is present at the first floor level, and the window openings have plain stucco surrounds. Each end wall features a loft light.
At the rear, there is a 12-pane sash window on each floor to the left, with two small attic windows to the right above a 12-pane sash on each main floor, and an off-centre long 36-pane stair light above the door. The front garden is enclosed by a dwarf grey limestone wall topped with railings that have scroll and arrow-headed finials, and there are similar paired gates in the centre with upswept top rails.
Inside, the hall has a moulded ceiling border and an arch with a radiating-bar fanlight. The dog-leg staircase features later 19th-century turned newels.
