Description

No. 23 is a terraced house that is set back from No. 22 but slightly forward of No. 24. It features unpainted stucco cladding, a slate close-eaved gabled roof, and a rebuilt brick stack on the left. The paired modillions at the eaves cornice, which were noted in 1981, are no longer present. The house is two stories tall with a cellar and has a two-window range that is offset to the right. There are three roof lights, with the upper floor featuring 12-pane sash windows and the ground floor having a large round-headed sash window that is five panes wide, with radiating glazing bars and a slate sill. To the right is a flat-headed doorway. The house has a stone plinth and a cellar light on the left. A flight of six slate steps leads up to a 20th-century panelled door with a plain overlight. The balustrade includes small half-circles with spikes between each pair of rails.

A slate plaque at the top left reads, "This pine end in the party wall is joint property 1833." The front features a grey limestone dwarf wall with wrought iron railings that have scroll finials and dog-bars, along with standards that have urn finials. The double gates are designed similarly to the railings.

Inside, there is a dog-leg stair with bulbous newels and a closed strong. The house has six-panel doors and two elliptical arched recesses on the west wall of the front room, which also has a reeded ceiling border with square rosettes at the corners. The hall ceiling features a reeded border with acanthus leaves in the corners.
