Description

No. 17 is an attached house dating from the 19th century, featuring painted stucco, a slate roof, and paired bracketed eaves. It has tall red brick end stacks and is three storeys high with a cellar, presenting a two-window range. There are two small roof lights near the ridge. The upper floor has 9-pane sash windows, while the first floor has 15-pane sash windows. The ground floor includes an arched sash window with radiating glazing bars to the left and an arched doorway to the right, which has a 19th-century four-panelled door and a plain fanlight; these are not aligned with the windows above. A cellar grille is located beneath the window, and there is a large cambered-headed basement window.

A balcony on the first floor features a later 19th-century balustrade made of iron railings with three panels of ornate scroll-work, supported by thin iron columns with decorative pierced brackets. The eastern side of the front garden is bordered by earlier 19th-century iron railings with scroll tops, similar to those on No. 16. The southern side is bounded by a dwarf stone wall and late 19th-century railings with alternately straight and twisted uprights, along with decorative scrolled iron panels. The gate follows a similar design, featuring cast-iron gatepiers.
