House. Early C19. Timber-framed and stuccoed; slate roof with a plain wood eaves soffit. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and cellar. 3 window range: 12-pane sashes in moulded flush cased frames except the central upper window, which is blocked. A 6-panel door up 3 steps is set back in a semicircular-headed arched doorway. Plain reveals, moulded door surround with Greek key ornament to architrave and a large rectangular fanlight divided by glazing bars into 6 panes. A long 2-storey rear range on the north is roughcast rendered over timber framing on the ground storey with C19 red brick above; part of this is divided off as a separate house, No.76A (qv). INTERIOR: extensive cellars, brick lined with vaulted ceilings below front. At the rear a long very rough brick-vaulted range with chalk walling extends below the whole length of the back garden and has an open well at the far end. Most rooms of the main range have moulded and decorated plaster cornices. Internal window shutters have sunk panels. Stair with stick balusters, ramped handrail and bracketed open strings. A single storey red brick rear extension on the south-west has a segmental curve to its walling with large 12-pane sash windows. 3 bays of the north range are partly within No.76: chamfered main beams have run-off stops.
