Description
76A Guildhall Street is a house that dates back to the early 17th century and forms part of the rear wing of No. 76, although it is occupied separately. The building features a combination of timber framing and 19th-century red brick, with the upper storey on the north side covered in weatherboarding. It has a slate roof and is part two-storey and part three-storey, with a cellar. The south side has random window placements, while the north side showcases several early 19th-century casement windows with pointed Gothic heads.
Inside, the small cellar is partially below ground and contains two large reused timber posts that serve as ceiling beams, with 20th-century joists attached. The rooms above are at different levels, featuring an earlier ground storey and an 18th-century upper storey, which was later faced with brick in the 19th century. The interior also includes 18th-century wall plates and purlins, which are linked to seemingly later collars, as well as several early to mid-19th-century raised grates in the upper rooms.
