Description
The War Memorial is a notable structure featuring a white marble statue of a soldier holding a reversed rifle, set on a large Portland stone pedestal. The entire memorial stands approximately 6.5 meters (20 feet) high. The pedestal is intricately designed with a moulded plinth beneath a raised broad band decorated with Greek key ornamentation, along with additional moulding both above and below. The shaft of the memorial is mostly plain, except for a carved laurel wreath on the front, which is positioned above name and date plaques. The top of the shaft is finished with a similar broad raised band of Greek key ornament. Surrounding the memorial is a contemporary railed enclosure that features upper finials and side gates.
