Description

Castle Mill is a 19th-century building featuring rubble stone with red brick dressings for the mill and a rendered front for the former house, all under a shared slate roof with small end stacks, rendered on the right and stone on the left. The structure is three storeys high and has a four-window range. The mill, located on the left, has red brick on the left corner of the ground and first floors only. It includes three six-pane upper windows that are irregularly spaced, two fixed 16-pane windows on the first floor that do not align with the attic windows, and two blocked ground floor windows, one of which has a red-brick head.

To the right, there is a broad entrance arch, apparently remodelled in the 20th century, that reaches into the first floor and features red sandstone voussoirs. Recessed double doors are situated between small-paned side windows, all beneath an oak lintel. The house on the right has a 4-pane top window, two pairs of long small-paned casements on the first floor, and a similar casement pair on the ground floor. The end wall and rear of the house are rendered and include casement windows.

At the rear of the mill, there are three first floor windows and a brick arch leading to the basement on the right, which was used for the former mill-leat. A stone dividing wall separates the mill from the former house. The ground floor features heavy oak ceiling beams, while the upper floors have pine beams. The roof structure consists of pine roof trusses with tie-beams and queen-posts, although some ties have been cut.
