Description
The War Memorial commemorates those who died in the Great War. It features a white marble female figure dressed in Grecian attire, positioned on a high stone and red granite pedestal, which is surrounded by ornate cast-iron railings. The figure has one arm raised, holding an olive branch. The pedestal consists of two rendered steps leading to a grey sandstone base with two large steps; the lower step is chamfered, while the upper step has a coved upper edge. The square tapering shaft of polished red granite is inscribed with gold lettering that reads 'Coffadwriaeth am wroniaid Pontrhydfendigaid a'r cylch a syrthiasant yn y Rhyfel Mawr 1914-1918'. At the top, there is a large grey stone cap that is coved below and slopes above to form a square plinth for the statue. The railings are set on black brick dwarf walls and feature cast-iron panels designed in an Art Nouveau scrolled lyre pattern, complete with a matching gate and slim posts topped with ball finials.
