Description

This is a farm building located on the north side of the farmyard at Great Abbey Farm, dating from the 18th century. The structure is built of rubble stone and has a slate roof. It is a long lofted building featuring stone steps leading to loft doors at both gable ends. The west end door has stone voussoirs, while the east end door has a brick head.

The south front facing the yard includes two cart entries on the left, each with stone voussoirs and arched heads. Next, there is an opening with an iron lintel beneath a long loft door, followed by a window and a door that have yellow stone voussoirs, and then another window and door with voussoirs, positioned slightly higher. Above these, there are two loft windows situated under the eaves. Outside, there are stone steps leading to a loft door, and at the end, there is a large boarded loft opening.

The rear wall is mostly devoid of windows, featuring two 16-pane loft windows towards the right end. On the left end, there is a lofted stable that has two 16-pane windows on each floor and a central door. The ground floor openings have cut stone voussoirs, which may have been reused. The first floor windows have slab lintels, and there is a straight joint to the right of the first floor openings, indicating that a single-storey range may have been rebuilt. The building has not been inspected.
