Description
31 Priory Street is an end-terrace house and shop dating from the 19th century. The exterior features unpainted roughcast with a steep slate roof and a red brick stack at the right end. The building has two storeys with an attic and cellar, presenting a two-window range that is offset to the left. It includes three plate-glass sash windows, and on the ground floor to the right, there is a square 19th-century four-light shop window with pilasters and a cornice supported by brackets, along with a central 20th-century part-glazed door.
The southwest gable end is also roughcast and features a cellar-level entry. The attic has a six-pane casement window to the right, while the first floor has a 12-pane sash window and the ground floor has a four-pane sash to the left and a 12-pane sash to the right. At cellar level, there are two steps leading down to a central doorway flanked by small, square boarded windows. The door is ledged.
Although the interior was not inspected, previous records indicate a central staircase with a low balustrade featuring square straight balusters, exposed ceiling beams on the ground floor and in the cellar, and modern partitions on the first floor. In 1981, the front elevation had painted stucco cladding, a plinth, a chamfered doorway, and a six-panel door, while the southwest wall was made of black-painted stone rubble.
