Description
This is an end-terrace house and shop located at 104 Main Street, constructed with painted stucco and slate roofs. The building stands three storeys tall and features a three-window range, with brick dentilled eaves. The upper floors have 20th-century windows that imitate four-pane sashes. On the ground floor, there is a three-panel house door with an overlight positioned to the extreme right, alongside a large later 19th-century projecting shop front to the left. The fascia of the shop front extends over the house door and is supported by a trellised panel to the right of the door. The shop front includes a recessed half-glazed central door and overlight, with thin columns at the angles of the canted shop windows, which have plate-glass panes, and narrow side panes that are canted in towards the door.
At the rear, there is a lower wing with the western wall showing marks of a medieval building. This wall features a small opening with a segmental pointed head and an outwardly splayed surround to the left, followed by two large pointed arches. Against the gable end of the main house, there are marks of a former gable end with evidence of a chimney and the corbels of a first-floor hooded fireplace. The western side also has two skylights and a 20th-century dormer. The ground floor shop has been inspected, but the upper floors have not.
