Description
The gatepiers and double gates at St Michael's Churchyard are made of cast iron and date from the 19th century. The piers are hollow with a quatrefoil shape, featuring moulded caps and remnants of a pierced Gothic valance or border. The eastern pier retains its original finial, which is designed in the shape of a fiery urn. The double gates are adorned with two rows of closely spaced cusped pointed openings, a band of quatrefoils in between, and leaf-pattern cresting. The lock is marked with "Coalbrookdale."
