Description
The front garden wall, railings, gatepiers, and gate to No 111 date from the 19th century. The wall is rendered and features restored thick iron railings topped with spear-headed finials, with larger finials on the stanchions that have raking supports. The wall and railings extend to the east end of the house. In the center, there are renewed narrow cast-iron gate posts with Gothic panelling, caps, and finials; the gate, which was missing in 1981, has now been restored to match the rails. At the right end, there is a stone pier with a pyramid cap that includes an inset cast-iron 19th-century penny postage stamp machine. This machine has coin slots for 1 penny post or a halfpenny stamped postcard rate, along with two small drawers for receiving stamps, and features an enamel plate for the local agent, Mr Joseph Powell, Main Street. A stone wall returns to the house at the west side.
