Description

Hay’s House, also known as Arthur’s House, is a house and former shop, dating from the mid to later 18th century. It has been converted into two flats. The exterior is painted stucco with a slate roof and a small rendered chimney stack on the left side. The building has two storeys and three bays. The first floor has renewed sash windows with narrow glazing bars and slate sills. The ground floor has a sash window on the right side. A mid to later 19th-century stucco surround unites the centre front door and the shopfront to the left. Two pilasters frame the centre door, and a third is situated to the left of the shopfront, incorporating plinths, capitals, a frieze, and a cornice that projects over the pilasters. The centre door, leading to Hay House, features two long arched panels and an overlight with small panes of glass. The shopfront of Arthur’s House has a recessed half-glazed door with an overlight to its right, and a six-pane shop window to its left, with two additional panes canted towards the door. The building was not inspected.
