Description
The forecourt railings, gates, and gate piers to Wesley Chapel are a Grade II listed structure. They feature a surrounding low wall made of grey limestone, topped with cast-iron railings and double gates positioned between stone gate piers. The central double gates are flanked by three large piers made of tooled grey limestone, which have raised plinths and large Bath stone caps that are square with cusped lunettes on each face. The ornate cast-iron gates display intricate tracery in three rows below the lock rail, which is adorned with half-circle cresting and finials between uprights that have scroll tops, all beneath a double top rail featuring more tracery and finials. On either side of the gates, the low wall is constructed of grey limestone with Bath stone chamfered coping and cast-iron railings that match the upper part of the gates. The cast-iron standards are fluted and topped with ball-capped finials. The wall and railings extend around the sides of the chapel, with subsidiary gates at each end on the south side. The railings on the north side are stepped, with gate piers located only at the west end.
