Description
20 Market Square, including Boots the Chemists, is a terraced house with a shop front, featuring white-painted stucco cladding and a slate roof with moulded eaves and shared brick end stacks. The building is two-and-a-half storeys high and has a three-window range. It has a pedimental gable above a small-paned lunette window that includes a centre mullion, moulded surround, and keystone. On the first floor, there are plate glass sash windows at either end and paired similar windows in the centre, all set within architraves that have keystones. To the left of the ground floor, there is a doorway in a similar architrave, while the centre and right sections feature a late 20th-century shop front inserted into a late 19th-century surround with pilasters and a dentilated cornice on console brackets. The previous listing noted that the roof was cement-clad and that the left-hand doorway on the ground floor was recorded as a window.
