Description
17 and 18 Market Square is a terraced house featuring a shop front, constructed with whitewashed stucco cladding and topped with a slate roof. It has a shared brick stack with No 20 at the right end. The building stands two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window range. The attic includes twin gables, each fitted with a small plate-glass sash window. The first floor showcases three early 20th-century cross windows, each adorned with stained glass top lights, all framed in thin surrounds with keystones. A raised band runs across the base of the gables.
The full-width ground floor features an early 20th-century plate glass shop front that incorporates some Art Nouveau detailing. There is a recessed doorway slightly to the left of centre, which includes a glazed door. The casing around the doorway is supported by pilasters and a cornice on brackets, extending over a four-panelled door with an overlight located to the right of the shop front.
