Description

11 Alban Square is a terrace of houses dating from the late 18th century, built in a simple classical style. The houses originally had two storeys and two windows each, although alterations have occurred. The facades are finished in various render types: cement render on numbers 10 and 11, scribed render on number 12, and roughcast on number 13. Numbers 10 and 11 have end pilaster strips, plinths, and a cill band. The roofs are slate, with wide boarded eaves, and there are five rendered chimney stacks and one rubble chimney stack. Most windows are sash windows with glazing bars, predominantly 12-pane, although numbers 10 and 14 have 16-pane windows on the ground floor. All windows have lugged architraves and keystones, except those on number 14. The ground floor windows of numbers 10 and 14 are set in segmental arched recesses; number 10 has a lugged architrave and keystone above the window, while number 14 has a plain architrave. Numbers 11 and 12 have ground floor windows matching the first floor design. A later 19th-century two-storey splayed and gabled bay window was added to number 13, featuring ornamental bargeboards, a finial, and a two-light sash window with panelled decoration between floors and to the base. The entrance arches are of two orders with panelled architraves and keystones. The doors are recessed six-panel doors with six-pane fanlights, except at number 13 which has a three-panel door, and number 14 which has a six-panel door with a five-pane fanlight. Iron railings are present in front of number 14.
