Description
29 North Road is a simple classical building dating from the 19th century. It is a two-storey structure with three-window roughcast, cement, and scribed render frontages. No 29 features an advanced hipped roof end pavilion, with rusticated quoins, cill bands, and plinths. The building has slate roofs, wide boarded eaves, and rendered chimney stacks.
The first floor has 12-pane sash windows, while the ground floor features 16-pane sash windows, except for No 26, which has splayed bays with sash glazing. Most windows have lugged architraves and moulded keystones, except for No 25, which has voussoir lintels. The entrances to Nos 24 and 25 are flat-headed, with a panelled architrave at No 24 and a doorcase at No 25. The entrances to Nos 26 to 29 are arched, with panelled architraves (except for No 29) and ornamental keystones.
The doors are recessed, with a modern door at No 24, an 8-panel door at No 25, 6-panel doors at Nos 26 to 28 with fanlights, and a 3-panel door at No 29 with a 6-pane fanlight. There are iron railings in front of No 29, surrounding steps that lead down to the basement. Additionally, there is one 2-light sash window on the end wall facing Darkgate Street.
