Description
4 North Road is a simple classical building from the 19th century, featuring roughcast and scribed rendered walls. It is two stories high with three-window fronts and has rusticated quoins. The building has advanced hipped roof end pavilions, slate roofs, wide boarded eaves, and seven cement render chimney stacks. The windows are 12-pane sash windows, with 16-pane windows on the ground floors of Nos 1 and 5. The first-floor windows have lugged architraves, while the ground floor windows are set in segmental arched recesses, all featuring ornamental keystones. Notably, the ground floor left window of No 6 (Talbot House Hair Fashions) has no glazing bars, and there is a shop front (Coco) to the right.
Nos 1 and 6 have open pedimented doorcases, with a flagpole at No 1. The arched entrances of Nos 2 and 5 are adorned with architraves and keystones. The doors include a recessed 6-panel door with a 6-pane fanlight at No 1, a later door at No 2, a 3-panel door with a 5-pane fanlight at No 3, an 8-panel door at No 4, a 6-panel door at No 5, and an 8-panel door with a 6-pane fanlight and panelled reveals at No 6, along with a further 4-panel door to the right.
The left side of No 1 is scribed rendered and has two sash windows, while the extensions to the rear are not of special interest. The right side of No 6 is roughcast and also has two sash windows. The interior of No 1 has been converted to offices.
