Description
5 North Road is a simple, classical building dating from the 18th century, originally consisting of six houses. The front is two storeys high with three windows, built with roughcast and scribed rendered walls and rusticated quoins. It features advanced, hipped roof end pavilions, slate roofs, wide boarded eaves, and seven cement-rendered chimney stacks. The windows are 12-pane sashes; those on the first floor have lugged architraves, while the ground-floor windows of numbers 1 and 5 are set in segmental arched recesses with ornamental keystones. The ground floor left window of number 6 has no glazing bars and incorporates a shop front. An open, pedimented doorcase is present at numbers 1 and 6, with a flagpole at number 1. The entrances are arched with architraves and keystones to numbers 2 and 5, leading to recessed doors. Number 1 has a 6-panel door with a 6-pane fanlight. Number 2 features a later door, number 3 has a 3-panel door with a 5-pane fanlight, number 4 has an 8-panel door, number 5 has a 6-panel door, and number 6 has an 8-panel door with a 6-pane fanlight and panelled reveals. A further 4-panel door is located to the right.
The left side of number 1 is scribed rendered with two sash windows. Extensions to the rear are not of architectural significance. The right side of number 6 is roughcast with two sash windows. The interior of number 1 has been converted into offices.
